New pathways for implementing universal suicide risk screening in healthcare settings

A new report, authored in part by researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health , part of the National Institutes of Health, provides guidance on how to implement universal suicide risk screening of youth in medical settings. The report describes a way for hospitals to address the rising suicide rate in a way that is flexible and mindful of limited resources.

In a press conference this morning, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray announced indictments of two Chinese men connected with China's Ministry of State Security and the hacking group known as APT 10. The two are accused of being responsible for a recent wave of attacks on managed service providers that ultimately targeted both companies and government agencies in 12 countries, including the US. The two are also accused of stealing the Social Security numbers and other personal data of more than 100,000 Navy service members.

As talks continue on the proposed Henrietta Lacks cancer research and treatment center in Halifax County, Superintendent of Schools Mark Lineburg is suggesting a direct tie-in with local schools - by adopting Henrietta Lacks High School as the name for the new facility to replace Halifax County High School. Lineburg appeared Wednesday at a meeting of the Henrietta Lacks Commission in South Boston to pitch the idea of renaming HCHS in honor of the unlikely medical pioneer, whose story was told in "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," the 2010 bestseller by science writer Rebecca Skloot.

Jury finds man not guilty after setting pregnant girlfriend on fire

A D.C. man charged with attempting to kill his pregnant girlfriend by setting her on fire has been found not guilty on all charges by a Prince George's County jury in the September 2017 incident. Laquinn Phillips, of Southeast D.C., was arrested last year for allegedly starting a fire in the second-floor apartment of a three-story building in the 1400 block of Elkwood Lane in Maryland.
